Instant Pot Buttered Rice (Pressure Cooker Basics)
A no-fuss pot of tender rice cooked under pressure with a pat of butter stirred in. It's the easiest way to prove your Instant Pot isn't scary.
Ingredients
- —rice · wash it or don't — your call
- —butter · optional
- 1 cupthin liquid · at least this much to prevent a burn notice
Steps
- 1
Place the metal insert inside the Instant Pot base — never pour liquid directly into the base, where the electronics are.
- 2
Check that the sealing ring is fully seated and in complete contact with the lid, and that the venting valve and float pin (with its washer) are properly installed.
- 3
Add the rice, butter if using, and at least 1 cup of thin liquid to the metal insert.
- 4
Line the arrow on the lid up with the body of the pot and lock it into place.
- 5
Set the pot on the counter and don't move it once it's running — never move a pot that's under pressure.
- 6
Cook under pressure for 15 minutes, then let the pressure decrease.
- 7
Vent the pot, keeping hands and face away from the scalding steam, until the metal float pin drops all the way down.
- 8
Once the pin is fully down, open the lid and fluff the rice.
Creator's notes
Do not pour liquid into the base of the Instant Pot — if the electronics get wet, throw it away and start over. If your pot never builds pressure, the sealing ring is likely old or seated incorrectly. The whole lid assembly, including the valve cover, comes apart and is dishwasher safe. Don't overfill, don't skimp on liquid, don't move a pot under pressure, and never force the lid off before the pin drops.
