One-Pot Lasagna Spaghetti
Ground beef, pasta, and jarred sauce simmer together in a single pot, then get dolloped with a seasoned ricotta mixture and blanketed in mozzarella before baking. All the comfort of lasagna with none of the layering or the pile of dishes.
Ingredients
For the pasta
- 1 poundground beef
- 2 tablespoonsdehydrated minced onion
- —garlic · a metric ton, to taste
- —Italian seasoning
- 1 jarpasta sauce
- 1/2 jarwater · use the pasta sauce jar
- 1 1/2 boxespasta
- 1 boxbeef broth
- 16 ouncesmozzarella cheese · shredded
For the ricotta mixture
- 15 ouncesricotta · one container
- 1egg
- 1 cupgrated Parmesan
- 1 teaspoongarlic
- —fresh cracked black pepper
- —parsley
Steps
- 1
Brown the ground beef in a large oven-safe pot until it is browned, not gray. Wash your hands after handling the raw meat and its packaging.
- 2
Blot the rendered fat away with a paper towel rather than pouring it down the drain.
- 3
Stir the dehydrated minced onion, garlic, and Italian seasoning into the beef.
- 4
Add the jar of pasta sauce, then fill the jar halfway with water and add that too. Stir to combine.
- 5
Stir in the pasta and pour in the box of beef broth.
- 6
Bring to a simmer, cover with a lid, and cook until most of the liquid is absorbed and the noodles are about halfway cooked.
- 7
Meanwhile, combine the ricotta, egg, Parmesan, garlic, black pepper, and parsley in a bowl and stir until mixed.
- 8
Turn off the heat, give the pasta a stir, then dollop the ricotta mixture over the top, nestling it in between the noodles.
- 9
Sprinkle the mozzarella evenly over everything.
- 10
Bake at 325°F for about 30 minutes, until the noodles are cooked through and the egg in the ricotta is set.
Creator's notes
Cooking the pasta right in the sauce means fewer dishes. Pull the noodles when they're only about halfway cooked — they finish in the oven along with the egg in the ricotta.
