Sloppy Joe Fries
Crispy baked french fries piled with a sweet-tangy homemade sloppy joe beef and melted cheese. It's a cheesy comfort-food dinner that's good for using up the frozen fries in your freezer.
Ingredients
- —frozen french fries · she used up a half bag plus a full bag
- —ground beef
- —salt · go light; the sauce ingredients are already salty
- —dehydrated minced onion
- —garlic · a generous amount, a heaping soup spoon or more
- —ketchup
- —mustard
- —Worcestershire sauce
- —brown sugar · for sweetness
- —shredded cheese · bagged is fine
- 1 canManwich sloppy joe sauce · optional shortcut in place of the homemade sauce ingredients
Steps
- 1
Bake the frozen french fries in a 425°F oven until hot and crispy.
- 2
Meanwhile, brown the ground beef in a skillet, breaking it up well. Cook until it is browned and a little crispy, not gray. Drain off any grease.
- 3
Season the beef lightly with salt, then stir in the dehydrated minced onion and a generous amount of garlic.
- 4
Stir in the ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and brown sugar, and cook until it smells like sloppy joe. You can use a can of Manwich instead of these sauce ingredients.
- 5
Spoon the sloppy joe meat over the baked fries and top with shredded cheese.
- 6
Return to the oven until the cheese melts, then serve.
Creator's notes
This is the first recipe in her cookbook. Go easy on the salt because the ketchup, mustard and Worcestershire are already salty, and don't salt the fries. Let the beef brown properly instead of steaming it gray. A can of Manwich works fine if you don't want to make the sauce.
