Slow Cooker Shredded Chicken for the Freezer
Mildly seasoned, garlicky shredded chicken made in the slow cooker with no added liquid. Freeze it for busy nights and turn it into tacos, barbecue sandwiches, or anything else you like.
Ingredients
- —chicken · boneless, not washed
- 2 tablespoonsall-purpose seasoning mix
- 4 clovesgarlic · crushed; or 3 tablespoons jarred garlic
Steps
- 1
Place the chicken directly in the slow cooker. Don't add any liquid, because the chicken releases its own.
- 2
Sprinkle the all-purpose seasoning over the chicken.
- 3
Crush the garlic and add it to the pot.
- 4
Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours, until the chicken is fork tender and shreds with little to no resistance. If it doesn't shred easily, cook it longer.
- 5
Move the chicken to a bowl and shred it with a hand mixer, a stand mixer, or forks. Mix the cooking liquid back in.
- 6
Freeze it for later, or use it right away. For example, toss it with barbecue sauce and serve it on buns.
Creator's notes
The chicken is only mildly seasoned, so you can use it in almost anything: add taco seasoning, barbecue sauce, or ranch. Jarred garlic is less potent than fresh, so use about 3 tablespoons of jarred in place of 4 fresh cloves. It's a homemade stand-in for rotisserie chicken.
