Easy Green Bean Casserole
A classic Thanksgiving side that comes together with just a handful of pantry staples and about 10 minutes of hands-on work. Crisp-tender green beans bake in a creamy mushroom sauce under a golden layer of crispy fried onions.
Ingredients
- 1 poundcut green beans · fresh and trimmed, or frozen (454g)
- 1 cancondensed cream of mushroom soup · 10.5-ounce/298g
- 1/4 cupwhole milk · 60mL
- 3/4 teaspoonground black pepper
- 1 1/2 teaspoonssalt
- 3/4 cupcrispy French fried onions · 45g
Steps
- 1
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Fill a large bowl with ice water and set aside.
- 2
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over medium-high heat. Add the green beans and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender and bright green, 2 to 3 minutes.
- 3
Using a slotted spoon, transfer the green beans to the ice bath. Let stand until completely cooled, about 2 minutes, then drain well.
- 4
In a large bowl, stir together the mushroom soup, milk, pepper, and salt until well combined. Stir in the cooled green beans until evenly coated, then transfer the mixture to a 1½-quart casserole dish.
- 5
Bake until heated through and just starting to bubble at the edges, about 30 minutes.
- 6
Stir the mixture, then sprinkle the fried onions over the top in an even layer. Continue baking until the onions are browned, about 5 minutes. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
