Caramelized Onion Kraft Mac and Cheese with Broiled Cheese Top
A box of Monterey Jack caramelized onion mac and cheese made restaurant-worthy with a pile of slow-cooked onions stirred in and a layer of cheese broiled until crisp on top. Comfort food with almost no extra effort.
Ingredients

- 1onion · thinly sliced, for caramelizing

Steps

Thinly slice the onion and cook it slowly in a pan until deeply caramelized.

Prepare the boxed mac and cheese according to the package instructions, keeping the pasta al dente.

Stir the caramelized onions into the finished mac and cheese.

Optional: transfer to an oven-safe dish, scatter shredded cheese over the top, and broil until melted and crispy. Serve warm.
Creator's notes
Straight out of the pot it's just as delicious — the broiled cheese top is an optional extra step since the Monterey Jack caramelized onion flavor is already baked into the mac and cheese.
