Ingredients
For the cookies
- 8Oreos · 69 g cookie, 23 g cream, separated
- 1/2 cupsalted butter · 113 g, divided and softened
- 1/3 cup5% fat Greek yogurt · 72 g
- 1/4 cupdark brown sugar · 50 g, packed
- 90 ggranulated sugar
- 1large egg
- 1/2 cupall-purpose flour · 70 g
- 1/4 cupcocoa powder · 25 g
- 1/4 teaspoonbaking soda
- 1/2 teaspoonDiamond Crystal kosher salt
- 158 gchocolate candy of choice · such as Butterfingers, Crunch bars, M&Ms, Heath bars or Twix, chopped, plus extra for topping
For the coating
- 4Oreos
- 2 tablespoonsturbinado sugar · 30 g
- 1/4 teaspoonDiamond Crystal kosher salt
Steps
- 1
Separate the 8 Oreos, scrape the cream filling into a small bowl, and set it aside for later.
- 2
Pulse the Oreo cookies in a food processor until finely crushed, then transfer the crumbs to a large bowl.
- 3
In a medium pan over medium heat, melt 57 g of the butter and let it fizz and foam for 4-5 minutes, until the milk solids are toasted and the butter is browned. Pour it over the Oreo crumbs, add the yogurt, and mix. Refrigerate for 10 minutes, until it has the texture of softened butter.
- 4
Add the remaining 57 g of softened butter, the dark brown sugar and the granulated sugar, and beat with an electric hand mixer until fluffy. Add the egg and beat for 2-3 minutes more, until the dough looks very whipped.
- 5
In a separate small bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt. Mix this into the wet ingredients in two batches, and stop as soon as a soft dough forms.
- 6
Chop the chocolate candies, mix them into the dough, then refrigerate the dough for 10 minutes.
- 7
Preheat the oven to 350°F convection or 375°F standard.
- 8
For the coating, crush the 4 Oreos in the food processor and mix them with the turbinado sugar and salt.
- 9
Scoop the dough into nine 70 g balls, roll them in the Oreo sugar coating, and place them on two parchment-lined baking sheets. Bake for 14-16 minutes.
- 10
While the cookies are still warm, swirl the reserved Oreo cream on top and press in extra candy pieces. Let them cool so the candy sets, then enjoy.
Creator's notes
The blog's ingredient list calls for 1/4 tsp baking soda, but its method says 1/2 tsp. The ingredient-list amount is used here.
