Spooky Halloween Lunchbox with Jack-o'-Lantern Quesadilla
A Halloween school lunch: a cheese quesadilla with a jack-o'-lantern face cut into the top tortilla, plus mandarin 'pumpkins' and cheese 'ghosts'. It takes little effort and costs little, and kids love it.
Ingredients
- 2tortillas · one carved with a jack-o'-lantern face
- —cheese · for the quesadilla
- —mandarin oranges or cuties · drawn on to look like pumpkins
- —cheese sticks or cheese slices · drawn on to look like ghosts
- —ghost-shaped chips · store-bought
- —smoothie melts · optional snack
- —bug-shaped snacks (bugs, bees and butterflies) · optional snack
Steps
- 1
Make sure the mandarin oranges are dry, then use a Sharpie to draw jack-o'-lantern faces on the peel. The peel comes off before eating.
- 2
Draw small ghost faces on the cheese.
- 3
Lay a tortilla on a paper plate and use a paring knife to cut out a jack-o'-lantern face. Festive cookie cutters work too, for bat or ghost shapes.
- 4
Put cheese on a plain tortilla and set the carved tortilla on top.
- 5
Microwave until the cheese melts.
- 6
Pack the quesadilla in the lunchbox, folding it if it doesn't fit. Add the orange pumpkins, cheese ghosts, ghost chips and other snacks.
Creator's notes
It's fine if the quesadilla is cold by lunchtime. Kids won't mind, and they'll just be happy it has a face. You don't need cookie cutters: a paper plate and a paring knife are enough.
